I read pretty much every single night. Staying up well past my bedtime, usually with a baby sleeping next to me, the Kindle app is my best friend as I decompress from a busy day of chasing littles.

My Kindle app is a treasure trove of books. I love looking back at them and remembering what I've read. I tried Goodreads for awhile but it just felt like one more thing.

Here are my favorites book picks from this spring. They are worth checking out whether you're an avid reader or looking for something to read while you soak up the newly emerging sun and flowers. This post contains affiliate links, I might make a small commission at no cost to you. All of these have Kindle or paperback options or you can likely find them at your local library 🤓

Thriller: Black Widows

I could not stop reading this. I need a thriller every few books I read and I have a weird obsession with polygamy. Quinn combines both of these perfectly when you are dropped into the story of Blake, a man with three wives, is found murdered on their secluded homestead in Utah. I learned more about the Mormon culture and what might lead women outside of the faith to join a plural marriage. It's a good murder mystery that I was reading in the living room while my kids were playing because I couldn't put it down. Watching the wives emerge as their own women was inspiring.

Historical Fiction: The Light After the War: A Novel

I have read a lot of books about the Holocaust over the years and this one is a lighter read as it takes place mostly after the war with some flashbacks. It's a heartfelt story about two best friends who grew up like sisters. They escape a train to Auschwitz and survive the war in hiding but not without losing most of their loved ones. What follows is their stories of love, heart ache, success and resilience as they start new lives abroad.

Easy Beach Read: Winter in Paradise

I enjoy Elin Hilderbrand's novels and work one of her books in every couple of months. They are typically set on Nantucket but this story takes us to the Caribbean after the main character, Irene, loses her husband unexpectedly and finds out he had a big secret, like second family big. There's some twists and turns as Irene, along with her two sons, learn the truth while staying at his expensive home on the island that she had no clue existed. The island setting is just what you need to ditch the winter vibes we've been living in. Be careful, this one is a series and book one is a cliffhanger. Luckily you can read them all since the series is complete.

Sci-Fi Thriller: The Family Experiment

John Mars is in a Facebook group (psychological thriller readers) I'm in and will actually respond and chat with people. It's pretty cool! I've read a few of his books, they are different but worth checking out if you like dystopian novels. The Family Experiment is about a reality show competition that follows 10 couples as they raise a child in the Metaverse, yes a virtual child. In a society where overpopulation, fertility issues and soaring costs to having a real family this is their future. The winner will choose to keep their virtual child or get prize money to start their own family. The story lines are all good and there's a few things you won't see coming.

Romance/Music/Historical Fiction: Daisy Jones & The Six

If you read any of my recommendations on this list this should be it. I adore this book. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a fantastic author. The book tells the story of a 70s rock band through interviewing members of the band. I no joke thought it was a real story until the end when I tried googling the band and instead found the author and realized I had read more of her books. I'm not sure how I missed that since her name is clearly on the cover but I guess I was too distracted by the book to notice. It's that good. The love story gave me Johnny and June vibes and being transported back to the 70s rock n roll party scene was pretty fun. 5 stars. Must read. 2 thumbs up. Don't miss. Thank me later 😘
